In the UK we have a range of different court . Most importantly in the UK they have a hierarchical structure of all the courts . I will be breaking down all the different types of courts in this hierarchical structure (which i have provided a diagram at the bottom of this paragraph) starting from the bottom. Before i start talking about this hierarchical structure , i want to explain the type of categories a courts can fall into .

Firstly, courts can be classified into two primary categories: civil courts and criminal courts. Civil courts deal with a wide range of legal disputes between individuals or organizations that typically involve issues relating to personal rights , contract disputes or property disputes . Civil courts try to aim to resolve disputes between parties and provide solutions which could be in the form of an injunctions (Court prohibiting an individual from taking a particular act) or a compensation (Court ordering making you pay a fine of some sort on behalf of your crime) . While a Criminal court will deal with particular action that are deemed as violations of the law , these cases typically could be crimes such as theft , assault , murder,drug offences , fraud and other illegal activity . A Criminal court will then decide if the individual that has been accused of breaking the law is guilty or not and if it is the case the court will decide on what punishment they should receive .

These diagrams categorize each of these courts into the type of court , they can fall into either being civil or a criminal court . Supreme court in this diagram is only in the criminal court but it also deals with civil matters as well . Know with that being all laid out , i will start with explaining the all the UK courts in this hierarchical structure .

In this court they tend to use a simpler format and less strict rules on the evidence that is provided in a case . This court can handle cases such as tax , employment and immigration . In a tribunal court the judge would be referred to as a tribunal judge (these judges are specialists in specific areas of law such as employment , immigration , social security or tax) . It is is to be said that tribunal courts are more specialized then other type of courts .
